I don't remember what it was called but it was a huge, Horn & Hardart style, vending shop for all types of sodas. Little windows lined the walls from the floor up and you could see the various flavors of soda through the window, put in your coins and the window opened releasing your soda. My personal favorite was black cherry. This soda shop was attached to a seaquarium featuring all sorts of live local fish and shellfish including horseshoe crabs. This had to be sometime between 1960 and 1965.

Hi,
My name is Caitlin, and I recently became obsessed with old postcard shots of AP and found your site.
My mom owned the Gill Residential Health Care Facility on Third Ave. since 1963. Fortunately she retired last Nov. 04'
Anyway, in the movie City by the Sea, they pan her home
(kind of a greenish tone to it) and next door they filmed many interior shots of ? well I saw the film a while ago. That would be at 302 Third Ave. I heard thru the grapevine that they paid her (the owner) a hefty sum to do this. Anyway, thought you might wanna know. Also, Bruce shot the video for the song The Rising: very briefly a woman is descending my mom's old fire escape at 300 3rd. Arch, I have yet to see this video. Sorry not a big bruce fan, but would like to see it, at least.
So much for nostalgia. Thanx for the site.
Joann Wysong, now in Manitou Springs, CO
I lived in Ocean Grove from birth to 9 mos. old, in 1945. Then moved to 408 2nd ave in Long Branch, lived there until age of 5. I remember the Mayfair Theatre, it was a palace, with Egyptian columns, colors, fantastic. The best part were the clouds which moved across the ceiling, during the whole film. (?) Saw Snow White there, the scariest movie I ever saw. Got the courage up to see it again last week, at my age of 60!!! Still scary.
The Mayfair is one of my favorite childhood memories, such a shame it was demolished. Please let me know other Asbury Park info, it is truly a special place. We would go there to see 4th of July fireworks over the lake. Also I fed the swans which were larger than I was. Very scary!
  Thanks!
