| Remember when... |
|
As a child In the 5o's and 6o's I spent every summer with
my matron aunts in Brielleand the highlight of that time was
going to Asbury Park. I still remember the bumper cars,
the swan and paddle boats, and the carousel. I brought my own
kids to see it in the 70's and I stood there and cried.
After 35 Years in Indiana I moved to Philadelphia. MY daughter
and I revisisted Asbury again 3 years ago and I cried. But I
still love the place and would move there in a heartbeat if I
could afford it.

If I was to say I owned the Boardwalk from the Casino to
Loch Arbor, I wouldn't be exaggerating. From the time I was a
little kid to the decline of prosperity, I lived every inch of
those boards. How many of you can say they played on the ice
hockey team in the Casino during the early 60's or worked
through High School at the Beach Boy. How about all the free
concerts throughout the 60's and 70's that the great AP cops let
me into. I'm telling you the memories go on and on. How many of
you swam in the Monte Carlo pool, rode on the Rock o Plane or
got chased off the boards by the rent a cops for riding your
bike down them in the middle of winter. Better yet getting
chased out of the water for surfing in the middle of winter, go
figure. First girl, toke, trip...yea....AP Boardwalk was and
still is one of my greatest loves. I look forward to when I can
return to AP and re-live some of by best years in life. I hope
and pray for a successful re-development. Yours Truly, Joshua

I have such very FOND memories of Asbury Park, NJ!!!!! ~I
moved to Asbury in 1952 at the age of 3. We lived in Asbury, and
later moved to Wanamassa,NJ, before moving to North Jersey in
Morris County, about 10+ years later. ~ We lived on Second
Avenue about two blocks from the Ocean in the Virginia
Apartments. Just down the end of our street was Ming's Chinese
Restaurant ( I used to hang around with Donald Ming; the owner's
son). Cross that street and there was Mrs. Jay's ~ I remember
ice skating in the Casino AND on Sunset Lake. ~ There was the
Fifth Avenue Tavern, Taborn's,etc. ~ I went to Holy Spirit
School & Church.
I was friends with Richard & Dennis Buckley; owners
of Buckley's Funeral Home. Another school friend, Dorothy Jo
Herig's father owned a luncheonette in the Casino. I remember
seeing Billy Haley & the Comets AND Georgia Gibbs perform at
the Casino. ~ I remember the Hotel Albion with it's Rainbow
Room; which was across the street from us on a catty corner. ~~
Saw many movies at both the Mayfair & St.James Theatres.
Remember the Swan Boats??? ~~ Tons of FUN at Palace
Amusements!!!!!!!!!!! ~ I can go ON and ON!!!!!!!!!!!!
AH!!!!!!!!!! To be able to have those days back
again!!!!!!!!!
