Gibran.

I worked on the Boardwalk from 1971 thru 1975 and they were probably the best years of my life.  In 1975 I lived on Third St., two blocks away from the beach and my job at Delmar's Gift Shop.  Delmar's was a family owned business that also owned Malson's at the South end of  Convention Hall.  One of the aforementioned years was the year of Jesus Christ Superstar.  A friend of mine was a security guard at Convention Hall, so I attended every performance free - What A Blast!!  I remember Surf Competitions, Orange Julius's at 12:00 am, and safely walking along the Boardwalk late at night when there were few people around.  My favorite delicacy was the Waffle Ice Cream, a taste sensation that has yet been rivaled anywhere in the world.  (and I've been quite a few places).  Asbury Park was magical back then.  Crowds so thick you could barely walk down the Boardwalk.  It saddens me to hear how it is now.

One of my most vivid memories is something that no one that I know saw; tanks on the Beach  during the 1969 (I think) riots.  If anyone else saw  the tanks, please E-mail me.  It was so long ago that I have half convinced myself that it was my imagination; but I'm pretty sure it was real.

1983: I moved from Akron, Ohio to Asbury Park. I couldn't wait to start working at the Palace Amusements. At the time I thought It was the greatest place, we don't have anything like this in Akron. When working there, I can remember the boardwalk being very crowded, even the Palace was full of kids and adults. After moving back to Akron in 1985, after the Palace closed, the Asbury wasn't the same. I haven't been to Asbury for awhile. I know I will remember as it was.

Noride, from PA

I grew up in Pennsylvania and my grandmother lives in Belmar, NJ as
kids my siblings and I would visit her during the summer. We looked
forward to spending the day in Asbury. We couldn't wait to ride
the "tea cups" and the "fire truck" located next to the fudge shop on
the boardwalk. As adults my siblings and I still visit our
grandmother on a regular basis. I knew that Asbury Park had become
an empty shell of what once was, but I didn't see it first hand until
this past weekend (July 26) when I visited my grandmother. I have
often spoke fondly of Asbury Park to my husband and wanted to share a
piece of my childhood with him. So, on Saturday we adventured to
Asbury, my first time in 15 years and his first time EVER. What I
saw made me so terribly sad, As I stood staring at the ungodly sight
of the "Palace" I could not believe my eyes. Yet I could still hear
the sounds of the rides and the laughter of the crowd and visualize
the neon Tillie. I silently asked, the Palace and Tillie where are
you now? The metal base plates are the only thing that remains of
the kiddy tea cup ride that I loved so much. The ride along with
others (fire truck, school bus merry-go-round) were once located next
to the fudge shop (also non-existing) on the boardwalk. The beauty
of the Ambassador Hotel lost to years of decay made me sick. My
husband marveled at the fact that a beach town could succumb to such a useless existence. He asked me, how could this happen?
I had no answer.
As we were leaving I left behind a horrible sight and held
on to my wonderful memories of a 1970s Asbury Park.

Moto- from Japan (Just thought it was neat - from Japan...)

Hi my name is moto, I'm mailing from Japan.
I'm planning to go to the warped tour in Asbury park at Aug 10th, to
stay in Manhattan NYC. I just want to know how to go to the venue from Manhattan by public transportation??
Thanks!
