I
remember my brother worked at the Hullabaloo as a bouncer and
I had half of Springsteen's broken tambourine. George Theiss
had a younger brother Billy (Bones) Theiss that was a doll, he
use to come over to the house with my brother wearing his long
green army jacket.
We would stop at all the bars on the circuit, my girlfriend
liked Mrs Jay's the Motorcycle crew would be there, then we
would stop at the Stone Pony and dance. Bruce would go
over to the back wall after a set and one night he tried to
talk to me and I wanted nothing to do with him. He was
my brothers age, too old back then. I did have long red
hair.
Some nights we use to go to the Alamo for Ladies night drinks.
I remember the basket ball games and the salt water taffy
machine that would stretch it... and the Perkins for breakfast
at the end of the Beach Front by Ocean Grove. I
remember the Carousel.....reaching out for the brass
ring...... I remember the PBA Dinner at the Berkley Carteret
that turned into a Brawl... A man threw a drink on the
wrong lady and then chairs were flying and glass doors were
breaking. Imus in the morning was there... The
chief of Police had his hair piece ripped off and everyone was
in shock. Can not remember what was served for dinner,
but there was a lot of entertainment.

Landon - the 50's in AP

I spent
three summers away from college at Asbury Park in the late 50's
working on the boardwalk at a hot dog stand near the Homestead
Restaurant and the carousel the first summer and then
"graduating" to Corrubia's Restaurant, across from the
paddle boats on the lake, the 2nd and 3rd summers. At
Corrubia's I was a waiter and tended some bar. I would start
work in June right after Memorial Day. The place was packed
with people. It was busy until just after Labor Day in
September, then it completely died. We stayed in rooming
houses in Ocean Grove. The chains would go up, blocking the
entrances to Ocean Grove, on Sundays. On the weekends, we
would drive down to the bars in Seaside Heights to hear great rock n
roll music from live bands. The movie "Eddie & The
Cruisers" captured this somewhat.
