"The Asbury Park Rock & Roll
Museum" opened inside "The Palace" in 1986 and was
extremely successful. It drew thousands of visitors to the town who were
interested in it's rich musical heritage.

The Asbury Park Rock 'N Roll
Museum drew over 5,000 people to the
Palace in ONE night for the NY radio promotion "K-ROCK's
Springsteen Record Release Party".

The Museum was featured in "Rolling
Stone Magazine", "The New York Times" and the
"L.A. Times" among countless other publications. It
was featured on "MTV" and many other television and
radio shows. Visitors from 31 countries came to the Museum, and
celebrity visitors included Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi,
many members of "The E Street Band", Southside Johnny
and Bo Diddley.

In 1986
it certainly proved that the city
SHOULD take advantage of it's musical history and it's "hometown
stars" to promote tourism. Maybe the city's current leaders are
finally realizing this. Sadly, when the Vaccaro Brothers (last operating
Palace owners)
decided to permanently close up, the Museum was also forced to close.
But let's not forget the Museum, and it's many contributions to Asbury
Park. |
